I was booked to cover this 30 minute photo shoot to capture a selection of up to date family photos. The group were renting a house in central Cheltenham for the weekend to celebrate their Mum’s 80th birthday. Below is a small selection to help give a flavour of the brief.

The Close Family

I was booked for this 40 minute shoot by Jean, who was celebrating her husband’s 70th birthday. Their whole family had come together for the weekend at their home in Cheltenham, with some flying all the way from Australia just to be there!

We had a beautiful afternoon for it, so much sun it was hard to find any shade, which always creates a much softer light. The shoot was a mix of family group photos, and some more relaxed ones. Below is just a small selection from the sixty five images the family received.

The McLeod Family

A crazy, fun afternoon in Bourton-on-the-Water with this brilliant family from Jamaica! Lots of laughs, lots of fantastic personalities and lots of tourists to dodge - it made for a busy hour!

We started by the river, and managed to get some clear space on one of the bridges just long enough to get a family photo with everyone. We then moved up away from the town centre to the ice cream van, which the kids were excited about!

It was a super hot day, so we found some shade and took some family photos under the willows. A really nice photo shoot. Below is just a small selection of images from the eighty four the family received.

The Holtom Family

It was lovely to see Grace and her family again. They booked me last year for a set of family photographs, and were so delighted with the results, that they booked me again this year. If you would like to see the photos from that shoot, please click here.

We met at the Greenway Hotel, where they got married three or four years ago. We were blessed with glorious sunshine, and as happened last time we met, the children, Theo and Ella, had me chasing around all over the garden after them! Great fun, and we produced some lovely, natural photos.

The Gardner Family

I met Helen and her family in the Forest of Dean, during their holiday at Lydney. It was a 60 minute photo shoot and really enjoyable. As with all my shoots, I try to keep them as relaxed and informal as possible, it helps to put the children at ease, (and adults too!) Ted

It was last year that I first photographed Ted, his Mum, Victoria, had contacted me as she had been unhappy with the school photos, (I hear that a lot!) Fast forward to this year and Victoria got in touch again for some up to date photos of Ted. We started with some fun on the swings, before moving inside for some portrait shots. We rounded things off with a couple of family photos outside the front of their house. Below is a small selection of images that Victoria received.

The Spurdle Family

Paul booked me to cover a family celebration they were having in Sheepscombe. It was his Mum’s 70th and the whole family had flown over from New Zealand for a couple of weeks. They were brilliant fun, and the emphasis was on capturing up to date photographs of the children, both individually and in groups. A photo of the grandparents with all the grandchildren was also important, as well as smaller family units. Below is just a small selection from the fifty nine photos the family received from their 40 minute shoot.

The Golder Family

Gemma booked me to cover her Mother in Law’s 70th birthday family gathering. They had booked a cottage for the weekend, (something which is very popular with many of my clients) and were enjoying afternoon drinks in the garden when I arrived.

We began with some formal family photos, before continuing with more informal, candid photos of the family relaxing in the garden. The session lasted for an hour, and was great fun. Below is just a small selection of images from the 61 that the family received.

Susan McKella

Bob and Susan were gifted their 30 minute photo shoot by Susan’s close friend, Carol, to celebrate their wedding anniversary. All of my gift vouchers can be redeemed at any point, which is great, as it means the recipient can book their photo shoot without worrying that it is going to expire.

I met Bob and Susan at their house on Cleeve Hill. We didn’t stray too far from their garden as Bob had slipped over a day or two before whilst walking their dogs, so was keen to keep to relatively flat ground. They wanted a couple of photos with their friends, as well as some photos by themselves and with their beloved dogs! It was very informal and relaxed. Below is a small selection of photos from the nineteen images they received.

The Kettel Family

Rodney got in touch with me recently as he was interested in booking a professional photographer for an hour to capture his large family gathering at Gulliver’s Hall in Bisley, near Stroud. He was recommended to me by the owner’s of the beautiful property, having photographed the entire renovation of it a few years ago.

Rodney and his family were celebrating a number of big birthdays. With everyone living in different parts of the country, the Cotswolds made a good central location.

We began with some formal family group photos on the lawn before spending the remainder of the shoot capturing more candid photos of the group relaxing and enjoying themselves. Below is just a small selection from the 102 images the family received.

Albie and Theo

I last photographed Theo and Albie when Albie was two years old, so it was super lovely to see them again, 5 years later, and boy were they big!! Click here to see the photos from that shoot.

Tim, their Dad, got in touch recently to book me again for another set of family photographs with both sets of grandparents. Again, the photo shoot took place in their garden, which has a gorgeous wildlife area, complete with pond and long grasses. After a few formal group photos, the boys were keen for piggy back rides and a run around. Below is just a small selection from the 71 images they received from their 90 minute shoot.

Graced at the Greenway

Grace booked me for a 40 minute shoot at the Greenway Hotel, where she had married her husband, Adam, a few years ago. It is a special place to them so it was natural they should choose it as the backdrop for their family photoshoot with their children, Theo and Ella.

I’ve done quite a few weddings and events at the Greenway. It’s a great venue, with super grounds. We were fortunate with the weather on this occasion. The children took a little while to warm up to the idea of having their photos taken, but with some gentle coaxing, they soon came out of their shells. By the end they were running around, laughing and playing chase, enjoying cuddles with Mum and being swung. It was a lovely shoot. Below are a small selection of shots.

The Goldsmith Family

Matthew booked me for a 60 minute shoot recently to capture a variety of photos of his family. They had hired a lake house for the weekend in the Cotswold Water Park to celebrate his Dad’s 70th birthday. I’ve done quite a few photo shoots at this location so am familiar with the layout, setting and where the nice spots are for photos. The grandchildren made a beeline for the play park but after that we took a walk around the grounds. As with all my photo shoots, I kept it very relaxed and informal. The emphasis was on having fun.

Fields of Fun at Sudely!

I met Megan at Sudeley Castle, there is a lovely field just behind it, outside the grounds, which makes for a super backdrop. Rolling hills, trees with big swinging branches and benches set in some very pretty spots. Below is just a small selection of shots.

Ada

Jo was given her photo shoot as a gift voucher and she chose to do it at her Father’s smallholding on the outskirts of Cheltenham. Jo was keen for some pictures of her granddaughter, Ada, bottle feeding the lambs, interacting with the ponies and generally enjoying herself in the fields.

It was another glorious sunny day, and Ada had a great time playing peak-a-boo, hide and seek, climbing gates, riding ponies and picking buttercups. This was an hour long shoot, below are just a small selection of photos from the session.

The Tullocks

Cathy was given her photo shoot as a gift voucher back in 2019!! A long time ago but due to Covid and busy diaries we have only just managed to get it done! I last saw Cathy and her family before her daughter was even born, it was so long ago I can’t even find the photo shoot when I look back at the hundreds of blogs I have written!

This time around we met at Ellenborough Park with Cathy’s extended family. It makes a lovely setting for a photo shoot. The swing is always popular with the children and the backdrop looking across the fields on to Cheltenham is popular with the adults. There were some fun candid shots and more formal family group pictures.

Cass, Finn and Joe

Lou contacted me recently as she wanted some professional photographs of her children and their cousins to give to her Dad on his birthday.

Lou and her sister, and their other halves, met me at Sudeley Castle, and together, we walked around to the adjacent field. This is such a great spot for photos, I take lots of my client’s there. The setting and the light always seem to produce some great images.

As was to be expected with three young boys, the 40 minute shoot was energetic and great fun! Lots of climbing trees, fences, parent’s shoulders, and whatever else they could find!

Connie and Margo

The last time I saw Mark, Matt, Jo and Connie was in 2019, when Connie was just a few years old. If you would like to see the photos from their previous shoot, please click here. Fast forward three years and Connie was looking very grown up! It was a pleasure to meet her younger sister, Margo, too. Matt, Mark and Jo are a modern family. I had forgotten just how gorgeous their house is and the grounds make for a stunning backdrop.

As always, the shoot was very relaxed and informal. Connie wasn’t the most forthcoming at having her photo taken, but with gentle coaxing, some cuddles and a few pumpkins, she soon found her confidence. Little Margo was also rather shy, but again, cuddles with Mum, Dad and Pa soon got her smiling. Below are a small selection of images from the fifty six the family received.

Naunton Park

I met Collete and her husband Alex at Naunton Park rose garden, along with their two children, Barney and Maive. I photographed this family at Crickley Hill a few years ago, before Maive was born. This time around they booked a 30 minute shoot. Barney wasn’t keen on the idea of having his photograph taken, running away and hiding as soon as he knew the camera was near. In cases like this, one requires a great deal of patience and also a lot of, ‘let’s play hide and seek’ and other fun games, to try and help them to relax. Barney loved playing hide and seek, which involved him and his family hiding behind various trees. Obviously it’s a great photographic moment when I discover them and the smiles break out! The Kendrick Family

Kylie booked me for a 40 minute photo shoot at her family home in Naunton, Gloucestershire, with her husband and two children, William and Maddie. The brief was to capture some up to date photos of the children, as well as some shots of the whole family.

Kylie warned me before we got started that the children might not corporate, however, I didn’t have any trouble getting them to smile. If children are unsure about the shoot, I find chatting to them about school, their interests etc helps to put them at ease and win them over.
